Prince George’s County Leading The Way in Smart Growth
A plan very similar to what is being proposed for Downtown Columbia has received preliminary approval from the Prince George’s County Planning Board. It envisions five distinct “neighborhoods” in the 640-acre site, with as many as 5,500 housing units and as much as 6.1 million square feet of office and retail space.
You’ve got to hand it to Prince George’s County. It is clear that this type of smart, sustainable development is the future, and we hope our elected officials here in Howard County realize it. In fact, take a look at this article about Konterra, another Prince George’s County project. Other places very close to us are already moving forward with their plans. We need to get moving.
Things have been quiet lately, but as we blogged about last time, things will begin to heat up as the County Council prepares to vote on the plan. In the meantime, we urge you to write to them at firstname.lastname@example.org to let them know you support the plan.
